Only explorers who made no conquests by the sword are featured. On the south wall are Norseman , Leif Ericson landing on Vineland, Marco Polo arriving at the court of Kublai Khan, and Columbus landing on an island in the Bahamas. On the north wall are Magellan passing through the stormy straits in 1568, Captian Cook exploring the South Sea Islands, and Admiral Byrd in Antarctica.
